The Opportunity

Status: Full-Time, Permanent

Position Summary

The Business Advisor works directly with self-identifying women+ (cis, trans, 2S, and gender diverse) entrepreneurs to help them start, grow, and strengthen their businesses. The role provides practical business advice, evaluates financing opportunities, and connects clients with the programs, services, and resources that support informed decision-making and long-term business success. By building trusted relationships and understanding each client's goals, the Business Advisor helps entrepreneurs navigate challenges, identify opportunities, and access financing that supports business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Business Advisory

  • Provide one-on-one business advice and coaching to entrepreneurs at various stages of business development.
  • Assess client needs and provide practical guidance on business planning, marketing, operations, financial management, and business growth.
  • Support clients in identifying opportunities, addressing challenges, and developing strategies to achieve their business goals.
  • Maintain accurate client records and document advisory activities using organizational systems.
  • Build trusted relationships that encourage ongoing client engagement and business success.

Financing & Loans

  • Conduct thorough and objective assessments of loan applications by evaluating business viability, financial health, repayment capacity, and overall lending risk.
  • Analyze financial statements, business plans, cash flow projections, and supporting documentation to support sound lending recommendations.
  • Complete loan assessments with consistency, integrity, and alignment with WeMB's lending criteria, policies, and organizational values.
  • Work collaboratively to support financing decisions that align with WeMB's lending criteria and mission.

Partnerships & Community Engagement

  • Build relationships with community organizations, referral partners, financial institutions, and business support organizations.
  • Represent WeMB at community events, tradeshows, networking opportunities, and industry activities.
  • Promote awareness of WeMB's services and strengthen referral relationships throughout Manitoba.
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and business support services available to entrepreneurs.
  • Support organizational initiatives that strengthen Manitoba's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Program Delivery & Client Engagement

  • Deliver workshops, presentations, and educational sessions that support women entrepreneurs throughout Manitoba.
  • Promote WeMB's programs, services, and resources to existing and prospective clients.
  • Connect entrepreneurs with appropriate funding opportunities, training, mentors, and external resources.
  • Gather client feedback and identify opportunities to improve programs and service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of client resources, tools, and educational materials.

Team and Organizational Support

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support departmental goals and organizational priorities.
  • Share knowledge, ideas, and best practices that strengthen client service and team effectiveness.
  • Participate in organizational projects, planning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of business trends, programs, and resources that support entrepreneurs.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope of the position.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Finance, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Three or more years of experience in financial advisory, business advising, commercial lending, entrepreneurship, economic development, or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with entrepreneurs or small business owners.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, presentations, or business education sessions is considered an asset.
  • Experience building relationships with community organizations and professional networks.
  • Experience delivering client-focused services in a collaborative environment.

Work Environment & Schedule

Standard Hours

  • 37.5 hour work week
  • Typical office hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule
  • Approximately two remote days per week
