What We Do

We are WeMB

In 1994, we were the very first federally funded Women’s Enterprise Initiative (WEI) in Western Canada. With the support of Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), we are committed to supporting all self-identifying women+ (cis, trans, 2S, and gender-diverse) to become successful entrepreneurs by offering a supportive, women-led community and services aimed at making their success our priority. We work together, #ToGetHer Stronger.

Everything WeMB does is rooted firmly in our Vision, Mission and Values.

History

In 1994, the Manitoba Women’s Enterprise Centre Inc. (MWEC) was established to address a gap in support for women+ business owners throughout Manitoba. We are proud that we were the very first federally funded Women’s Enterprise Initiative (WEI) in Western Canada.

Since our inception, we have supported women+ entrepreneurs at every stage of their business development with our core services including advising, financing, and training. Together, we have built a successful, resilient and diverse community of innovative entrepreneurs who contribute their skills, knowledge, and experience to the fabric of the Manitoba economy every day.

Evolution

As we approached our 30th Anniversary in 2024, we acknowledged that our clients’ needs had evolved substantially over our shared history together. As we worked to meet those needs, we recognized that our brand identity, the most visible component of who we are, needed to change to better reflect our community.

Manitoba Women’s Enterprise Centre Inc. now operates as WeMB.

WeMB reflects who we are today. It embodies our vision, mission, and values and acknowledges the ongoing work we have committed ourselves in being more inclusive and working as allies in our communities. It focusses our efforts to support ALL those who self-identify as women+ (cis, trans, 2S, and gender-diverse) in their individual and collective pursuit of entrepreneurship.

With WeMB, we strive to better represent and reflect the women+ we are honoured to serve, to open the doors to entrepreneurship for more women+, and reduce barriers to accessing our services.

At WeMB we work together, ToGetHer Stronger
